WORSHIP

King Of My Heart

[Verse 1]
Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh He is my song

[Chorus]
You are good, good, oh
You are good, good, oh

[Verse 2]
Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh He is my song

[Bridge]
You're never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

All Is For Your Glory

[Verse 1]
There's just one chief end to man's purpose
One main reason for existence
All man's vain and high ambitions
Will one day be brought low
Will one day be brought low

[Verse 2]
To treasure You above all others
To love You like we love no other
And Your greatness soon will be uncovered
And all the earth will then know
And all the earth will then know

[Pre-Chorus]
For You alone will be exalted in that day
And worthless goals will be exposed as idols that we've made
For You alone will be exalted in that day
And You'll be seen as rightful King and from our hearts, we'll say!...

[Chorus]
That all is for Your glory
And all is for Your name
And all is for Your glory
That in all things You may have first place
That in all things You may have preeminence
That all is for Your glory
And all is for Your name
And all is for Your glory
That in all things You may have first place
That in all things You may have preeminence

Cornerstone

[Verse 1]
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name

[Chorus]
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Saviour's love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all

[Verse 2]
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil

[Verse 3]
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless stand before the throne

MESSAGE NOTES

Today’s message: Purpose in the Pressing | Brandon Naramore

Matthew 25:1-13 (NRSV)  “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids] took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise replied, ‘No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. 11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’ 13 Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.[e]

Crude Oil is an interesting commodity
  • We use petroleum products to propel vehicles, to heat buildings, and to produce electricity.
  • The age of oil production started to develop in the 1890’s however most historians consider the Spindletop strike of 1901 near Lucas Texas to be the beginning point.
Picture
On January 10, 1901, a well at Spindletop struck oil ("came in"). The Spindletop gusher blew for 9 days 150 high and at a rate estimated at 100,000 barrels (16,000 m3) of oil per day
Picture
There Will Be Blood (2007). Depicted the aggressive and cutthroat start of the oil age. Daniel Plainview tries to buy access to put up oil derricks in a small town. The preacher than comes later in life to try and sell the property only to find out it is now worthless.
Dream of Buying Oil
  • The parable of the 10 virgins is a difficult revelation for us to understand
  • Why does God have to use parables, mysteries and riddles to speak to us?

Matthew 13:10-11  (NRSV)
Then the disciples came and asked him, “Why do you speak to them in parables?” He answered, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

Proverbs 25:2 (NRSV)
It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.

“The reason why he tells us this from the outset is that we cannot tell this just by looking at them. All ten have come to the wedding; all ten have their lamps aglow with expectation; all ten, presumably, have on their bridesmaid gowns. We would never guess from appearances that half are wise and half foolish… it is not the looks, the lamps, or the long dresses that sets the wise apart from the foolish—it’s the readiness.” - M.E. Boring (1994–2004). The Gospel of Matthew.

“The foolish were short on oil. Not only did they fail to bring additional oil, but their torches, when lit, burned with a low flame (they were going out).” - RH Mounce (2011). Matthew.

“The reference to sleep here and rising in v. 7 are literal, not metaphors for death and resurrection (contra Schenk). D.A. Hagner (1995). Matthew 14–28.

“The decision was not selfish but based on common sense (if all the torches went out, the procession).” R.H. Mounce (2011). Matthew.

Olive Oil
Olive growers were among the wealthiest people, as olive oil was the main source of energy for lamps. The oil was also used for medical purposes, mainly for lubricating the body and healing sores

Grapes and Olives
The two most prominent symbols used to describe Israel were vineyards and olives. It was believed that every household had both a vine and an olive tree
Picture
Jewish Olive Tree. The evergreen olive bush is relatively low – 2 to 6 meters high. Its trunk is twisted and gnarled, and its most prominent features are the thickness of its trunk and its silvery foliage. The olive tree has long roots that penetrate down to the deep, damp layers of the soil, making it capable of surviving through Israel’s dry summers.
Wild vs Cultivated
“In Israel, it grows wild and is also cultivated. The most obvious difference between the wild trees and the cultivated varieties is the size of the fruit: the fruit of cultivated trees is usually relatively larger, the pulp is more fleshy and the oil content is higher.”  Karen Kayemeth Leisrael

The vine was for pruning the olive for pressing
Olives need a lot of heat in order to be of good quality when ripe. The riper the fruit, the greater the quantity of oil that can be extracted from them. The olives are harvested in the traditional manner – by hitting the tree branches with a stick. Everybody who comes to the festival is handed a container in which to gather the olives and an instruction sheet on olive pickling. After a short time spent harvesting, they split the olives on a stone surface and press them to obtain the oil.

Processed Oil
We must become discontent with the processed promises that our culture provides For the promises of God must cultivated and developed with in us and in order to come to use must mature and be pressed

Job 23:8-10 (NRSV)
“If I go forward, he is not there; or backward, I cannot perceive him on the left he hides, and I cannot behold him;  I turn] to the right, but I cannot see him. But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold."
